The gig came about as we had recently recorded at Anzac Studios in Brighton and a promoter had heard our "Single" cassette containing Don't Turn Away and Pass Me By. Apparently this seemed a good enough reason to give us a gig! We were to be the first band on supporting Brighton bands; Pharoah House Crash and Serpentine. We preferred to go on first because we were due on at about 9.00pm which is quite late considering three bands had to play. The audience began to leave midway through the third band's set as it was pretty late by that time. As well as bringing along the equipment needed - guitars, amps, drums, lava lamp (not true!) - Neale brought along a large tray containing loads of Fragile tapes, badges, and a few T-Shirts. The only things missing were ice creams! We thought he was going to strap on the tray before and after the gig and take orders wearing a white apron and cap! Unlike our later German gigs where the hospitality is great - i.e. free drinks and some food, at the Norfolk we were (begrudgingly) offered one free drink each. Except Mark paid for his having returned from elsewhere and not wanting to declare "But I'm a pop star!" Like our first gig at the Inn On The Prom, Worthing, we had a good size audience of our own which always helps. It was probably our best gig, everything flowed, we sang and played to our best ability and even the non-Fragile "groupies" seemed to appreciate our racket! Neale could be heard later shouting "Roll up! Roll up! Hot dogs! Ice cream! Getcha Fragile tapes, badges and T-Shirts here! Bargains galore!" Unfortunately,
we have no record of our set list that night although we can remember
starting with Don't Turn Away and would definitely have played:
